Bridging the experience, dedication and professional expertise that has made Support 4 Teachers a success in school districts across Ohio, our company is pleased to introduce our newest venture, Support 4 Families.

Although we serve all ages, our primary focus is helping families whose child is 22 or older. When school services are no longer available many families find their young adult does not “fit” into any day programs or their behavior becomes so severe they are excluded. With no structure to the day, these individuals frequently revert to old behaviors and the impact on their loved ones can be devastating.

Services include private, in-home behavioral support and guidance that focuses on increasing the independence and inclusion of persons with disabilities into their community and every day life. This is accomplished by designing individual home plans and providing highly trained, highly skilled staff members to develop and implement simple and effective instructional strategies.

The following are some of the services we offer to families in their homes:

  • Caregiver consultation and training
  • Home instruction
  • Community instruction
  • Functional Behavior Assessment
  • Behavior Intervention Planning and Implementation

Positive Behavior Support for Families Positive Behavior Supports (PBS) as a whole is dedicated not only to enhance a schools capacity to help students learn, but is also concerned with family and community support. After all, what good is it for a youngster with problems to learn new, more adaptive ways to behave in school but not be able to use those new skill in every day life? PBS is a research-based approach to changing environments and is designed to modify serious behavior problems. PBS seeks to generalize newly learned behaviors to all settings. Unfortunately, generalization of behaviors has not necessarily been a priority in school programs, particularly generalization to home and community. We need to teach appropriate behaviors. This instruction must be carefully designed and consistently delivered in each setting. Ultimately, it becomes a family responsibility. A detailed behavior plan becomes necessary.

The key to a successful behavior plan is conducting a thorough Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA). The assessment answers the question “why”; why does he/she do that…what is gained or what is avoided? Once the team has the FBA data, an educated guess as to the “why” and “what to do next” becomes clearer.

As professionals the Support 4 Families staff understands that parents and caregivers need as much ,if not more, support as teachers required, to make things work for their loved ones. We are excited about our ability to make a difference in the lives of many people with the problems associated with autism by extending the behavioral principles and the care-centered approach of Support 4 Teachers into the realm of family and community life. Now parents and caregivers can receive the help and support they need in order to meet the challenges their loved one presents in the home.
